New Paid Users

NPU can be calculated in two ways in the Finance Explore. The difference is by design: each serves a different business process.

First Paid Transaction (Acquisition)

Use Count of Unique Users with User First Paid Transaction Date.

  • Based on the product attribute Paid. If the product is flagged Paid = true, that transaction date is used. Paid is defined from Configuration Manager or the Backend DB
  • Used downstream in the Acquisition models
  • Fully discounted MTU plans keep Paid = true, so they count as a converting event for ad platforms
  • For Calling products: - Initial payment also requires PaymentAmount > 0, so trial products have Paid = false - Calls on a Paid = true product count if the call is successful, regardless of PaymentAmount and trial

First Payment (Finance)

Use Count of Unique New Paid Users with FirstPaymentDate.

  • Based on payments with Amount > 0 and PaymentStatusCategory = 'Successful', whether the product is paid or unpaid
  • Fully discounted MTU plans and welcome offers are not converting events, so they do not count as NPU

Note

Both numbers were kept after a discussion with Finance and Growth: Acquisition uses Count of Unique Users per UserFirstPaidTransactionDate, Finance uses Count of Unique New Paid Users per FirstPaymentDate.
