Development Environment Setup

Shared local setup for the Data Team. For company-specific setup (warehouse connections, dbt projects), see your company's Getting Started section.

Homebrew

Homebrew is the recommended package manager for macOS. Install it first as it will be used to install most other tools.

Essential Utilities

# Kubernetes command line
brew install kubectl

# Docker
brew install docker

# Helm package manager
brew install helm

# Azure Kubelogin
brew install Azure/kubelogin/kubelogin

# Git version control
brew install git

# UV package manager
brew install uv

Editor

Use any editor you like, e.g. VS Code. Ask your manager if yours needs a license.

AI Assistants

AI tools are optional. Ask your manager for the one you want. If you use Claude Code, see the Claude Code guide for setup and team conventions.

DataGrip

DataGrip is our SQL IDE.

License Required

Request a DataGrip license from your manager. You can use the free trial in the meantime.
